What You Need To Know About Brake-Pads

Most people never think about their brakes until there’s a problem. However, brake maintenance is important for keeping your car safe on the road. Here’s some information on how to do it.

Why Brake Pads Are Important

As any car owner knows, brakes are an essential part of any vehicle. Brake pads and rotors work together to slow down or stop the wheels from turning. Over time, brake pads can wear down, causing the brakes to become less effective. In some cases, you may have to procure replacements. When choosing new brake pads, you should select ones that are compatible with your vehicle. Additionally, you should consider the driving conditions in which you will be using them. For example, if you live in an area with lots of rolling hills, you may want to choose pads that are designed for heavy-duty use. By choosing the right brake pads, you can help ensure that your vehicle will stop safely and smoothly.

How to Take Care of Brake Pads

Over time, your vehicle’s brakes will become worn down. However, maintenance for the brake pads is relatively easy. A person with some basic skills can take care of it with the right tools. Before getting started, you’ll need to purchase a new set of brake pads that work with your type of vehicle. Once you have the new parts, start by removing the old brake pads.

First, you’ll need to remove the wheels. On most cars, the brake pads are located behind the wheel. So you’ll need to take the wheel off to access them. Once the wheels are off, you’ll be able to see the caliper — this is what holds the pads in place. Use a wrench to remove the bolts that hold the caliper in place, and then carefully remove it from the rotor. You may need to use a rubber mallet to lightly tap it loose. Once the new pads are in place, you can reinstall the caliper and bolts. Hand-tighten them until they’re snug, but don’t over-tighten as this can damage the threads.

As a car owner, you’ll want to keep your vehicle in excellent condition. One essential aspect of having a well-maintained car is keeping a close eye on the brake pads in your vehicle. With a little time and effort, you can learn how to take care of this at home.
