There are a handful of diesel engine problems that are problems we fix here at our diesel auto shop. Our certified technicians are experts in everything automotive including diesel engines. Bring your diesel truck to our shop if you are having any of the issues listed below.
Difficulty Starting the Vehicle
To be honest, one of the only reasons why you will have difficulty starting your diesel truck is because it hasn’t been maintained. If the truck is overdue for much-needed maintenance and is cranking more than it normally does before it starts, schedule a maintenance appointment with us.
Loss of Engine Power
If your diesel truck’s engine is having a problem producing power, especially when you accelerate, you’ve got a fuel-delivery problem in the engine. This could be caused by clogged fuel injectors or a clogged fuel filter. Another thing that will reduce your diesel engine’s power is excessive engine lubrication. Finally, we may need to tighten the throttle linkage to restore the power to normal.
Soot in the Fuel
Maintaining the diesel truck’s fuel system helps to ensure that the fuel never gets contaminated by soot. As an aside, the fuel can also get contaminated by water or glycol among other contaminants. If you end up with fuel contamination that makes its way to the engine, you’re going to have a bigger problem. Make sure your fuel stays clean by having the fuel system maintained per the owner’s manual.
A Ton of Black Exhaust
Any engine, whether diesel or gasoline, relies on a balance of air and fuel in the combustion chamber to produce efficient combustion. If the balance is off, i.e., fuel-rich, you may end up seeing excess black exhaust in your rearview mirror. This is a sign that your truck’s diesel engine is burning more fuel than it should be. This can happen if the air filter is clogged or you have leaking fuel injectors.
Air in the Motor Oil
Have your diesel truck towed to our shop if you haven’t run the engine in months. The reason why is that air bubbles fill the motor oil as it oxidizes. If you attempt to drive your diesel truck, you will cause unnecessary and possibly expensive damage to the engine. When the motor oil is filled with air, it cannot properly lubricate moving engine parts. This reduces their protection as they operate.
Finally, your diesel engine may start to knock or make other strange noises if there is a problem with the fuel injectors. Give us a call to schedule a service visit for your truck if you are having any of the issues discussed in this blog post or if it is overdue for maintenance.
